Do you know what is shitty about this situation? I posted this originally. It is from a show I curated last year and I posted it as a promotion. I had a write up about the show as well as the artist. Here is what I had:
Day of the Dead Show Sneak Preview: Cody Schibi
Cody Schibi is pretty much the polar opposite of who I am as an artist, but I think that is why I like him so much. He is a horror artist, which allows him to play with the intricate details of every gory inch of his pieces. Despite his residence in Austin and mine in Detroit, we’ve actually done quite a few shows together now (included places far away from both of us). I’m really happy he wanted to participate in this show. I’m also stoked that he gave me two excellent new pieces to put up.More of Cody on the web:

Now, I can understand people not wanting to include all of that. I really do. But there is NO goddamn excuse for cutting out the artist’s credit. None. Now, that was cut out a long time ago (this is now approaching 12,000 notes). I didn’t get TOO pissed because I had put Cody’s website as the link when you click the image.
Roll over the image right now. Go ahead. Does that say http://www.codyschibi.com? No. No it does not. It says http://michaelmammino.tumblr.com.
That is complete and utter bullshit.
Now, this isn’t really that user’s fault. He wasn’t even the one to remove the link. That happened well before he found it. I could spend hours clicking around to find the original user who deleted the link from the image, but my time is more valuable than that. I just want to point out something that seems to be a major issue on Tumblr. People being callous dicks to content creators.
It is great that you all like Cody’s work so much, but if you want folks like Cody and I to keep making art then we have to get paid for it. How do we get paid to make art? By people hiring us. How do people find us to hire us when folks are actively making that more difficult?
KNOCK IT THE FUCK OFF, ASSHOLES.
